‘My grandfather used to tell us how during ceasefire they used to throw each other cigarettes
and biscuits. Subsequently a friendship was developed between the Turks and the Anzacs. When the ceasefire
was over, the people who had exchanged gifts started to again kill each other. I think this is the critical edge!’
